The Project Manager position is a role focused on the close management of several of our key clients’ and new clients longer term projects. These projects will most likely be complete ecommerce website builds from scratch or the replatforming / rebuilding of an existing ecommerce website.
This specific role is for a maternity cover and will be a 12 month contract. Ideally immediate start if possible, to begin in mid-February.
Responsibilities
You will be responsible for communicating with clients and the development team with a view to coordinating support, milestones, deliverables, testing and project work.
The PM will have oversight of the full lifecycle of the project from the end of the sales cycle to go live. Here is an example of the activities that might occur periodically over a project. The PM is likely to have several of these projects at one time.
Sales Cycle
- Initial sales meeting / call
- Helping to define the requirements the potential client is looking for
- Helping to write and price our sales proposal
- More likely additional meetings to confirm the requirements and sign off timelines and costs
Early Stage Project
- Long term planning for milestones and deliverables
- Scheduling development and design resources
- Ongoing communication with the client
- Conducting standup meetings and Kanban boards within StudioForty9 to monitor the progress of the project.
- Design traditionally comes first, will be done by our designer with oversight from the client and PM
- QA of the design will be undertaken by the PM and client to be signed off.
- Development environment is set up, invoices for hosting, licences etc need to be sent.
Mid Stage Project
- Design has been signed off and is now being marked up by our developers.
- Possible change requests are likely to come in from clients, these need to be assessed, specced and priced separately from the original signed off Statement of Work for the project. These may need to be pushed to a future phase.

- Couriers
- Payment Gateways
- Payment Providers
- EPoS / ERP companies
- Search companies
- Marketing agencies
- Many more
- Ongoing sign off and organisation of StudioForty9 developers.
Late Stage Project / Go Live
- Agreeing go live plan with the client
- Ongoing invoicing for achieved milestones
- Creating QA and test scripts to check all functionality
- Pushing 3rd parties for their deliverables, often a big factor in delaying projects.
Post Live Stage
- Handing over the now live project to a StudioForty9 account manager
- Was the project profitable?
- Ensuring that there is documentation on the project, what was done and built. This will help the AM moving forward.
- Analysing and assessing the project process and suggesting ways to become more efficient on the next project via project retrospectives
Skills & Experience
The successful candidate is likely to have the following skills:
- Previous experience managing the full project lifecycle of a digital project
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
- Ability to interact with both technical and non-technical stakeholders within a project
- Strong attention to detail and organisational skills
- Self-motivated, innovative, and comfortable dealing with ambiguity
- Experience managing dependencies and identifying risks to maintain the project timeline
- Familiarity with Project Management software tools for ticket logging and controlling the deliverables of a project
- Strong problem resolution skills
Nice to Have
- A working understanding of leading ecommerce platforms such as Shopify, Magento and BigCommerce
- Understanding of basic underlying technologies such as HTML, CSS, JS will definitely be an advantage.
